One 2 One SELF-TAPING COURSE
Many actors were rather 'put-out' when the whole self-tape thing started a few years ago, but it has grown to become a really important part of the actors' work.
What a self-tape does, is gives the casting director, an opportunity to see your work, when they may not have had the time to meet you. This has opened the door to many more actors, who would have struggled to get into the room, before now. So a great self tape is absolutely essential. Especially as, in some cases, you may be cast on your self tape, especially if it's a minor role and the production has already started.
Getting your self-tapes up to a very high standard; understanding the subtleties of framing and lighting (all with your smart phone and equipment you'll already have at home) and how to keep the casting director interested, beyond the first 5 seconds.
A full-on course in itself, you're given exercises to complete at home, in order to ensure that you're well-drilled and ready to go with confident and good quality self tapes.
The course includes:
1. Telephone or video call, to discuss your experience so far, with the whole self-taping process. (It would be helpful if you have some old self tapes to send us, so that we can discuss these, during the conversation).
Rudimentary principles to work through, to do with your set up at home, including: framing, background, lighting, editing, compressing and delivering your tape, correctly labelled.
You will then be given a script to self tape and return to us, for detailed analysis and feedback.
2. Video call, with detailed analysis and trouble shooting, including some useful exercises to practice, prior to filming your next self tape. You will be given another script to prepare, film and deliver.
3. Detailed analysis and exercises via video call. Watching the scene together, working out how to improve your work. This may include tech issues, as well as acting issues. One more scene to prepare.
4. Video lesson, again with detailed analysis, as well as a lesson in idents.
There are lots of simple tips and some really useful advice for framing and delivery, which will make all the difference to your work.
This will require you to be self-sufficient and well organised.
